In the North West we can
be proud of being the home of the Industrial Revolution. With that
great surge of energy and change in society we paid scant regard
to the negative effects on
the environment. It took us many years to clearly understand the
problems of lost green space
and derelict land. The Forests are trying to reverse this loss and
degradation of green land by supporting projects that convert some
of our most despoiled land to wonderful greenspaces.
It is now clear that a good environment in and around our towns
and cities helps to improve
people's lives and makes the area attractive for businesses and
employers. Improving the
image of our land improves life for employers and communities alike.
At the core of the Forests is a commitment to the environmental
regeneration of the North West
of England. This is evident in projects such as Green Streets, which
promotes planting of trees
in residential and city centre streets, and Newlands, which is a
£56million project to transform
some of the most derelict, under-used and neglected land of the
North West into recreational
green spaces for the local communities and businesses. For more
detail on these and other
Forest projects please visit the Forest websites:
